Established on July 30, 1889, Royal Birkdale Golf Club has a rich tradition. Originally located in the Shaw Hills, it moved to Birkdale Hills in 1894 and to its current site in 1897. The clubhouse, built in 1935 in art deco style by architect George E. Tonge, combines history with modern amenities. In 1951, it gained Royal status, followed by hosting its first Open Championship in 1954, won by Peter Thompson. Over the years, it has hosted numerous prestigious events, including 9 more Open Championships, 7 Women’s Opens, 2 Ryder Cups, and one Senior Open. It will host the Open Championship again in 2026.
